António Egas Moniz: Lobotomy Pioneer and Nobel Laureate
- reify 2y agoMost people asked would be unaware that lobotomy is still practiced in todays psychiatry. They would think that it was something that only happened in mental asylums and mental hospitals in England a few hundred years ago. It is a requirement of psychotherapy training that you spend time in psychiatric wards. I was so shocked to learn that brain surgery (NMD, Neurosurgery for mental disorder ) and electric shock treatement (ECT, Electroconvulsive therapy) were so prevalent. We still use these horrific treatment to manage those with psychiatric disorders. Do we really want to praise some frankenstein scientist for leading the way to remove parts of someone's brain. I saw people who had endured these treatments. Hey Antonio. let me pop round your house and give you some ECT to see how you like it. It just goes to prove that psychiatry still has no real understanding of the brain even after hundreds of years. Quack muppets!
