I know that for some (many?) people the mind-body connection is taboo. They'd rather see the body as a separate machine than recognizing that it's affected by psychological processes. A reason could be that they want to avoid dealing with their trauma's, which is would be something you'd have to do if you want to heal such physical ailments.
