How do you guys monitor your cron jobs?
- viraptor 2y agoEither http://deadmanssnitch.com/ http://deadmanssnitch.com/ or if you have an existing solution for posting metrics, alert on missing data.
- mnmadhukar 2y agoactually i'm building one cron monitor. Can you help me what one needs in the metric ?
- viraptor 2y agoI just report simple value 1 for a given label when the job completes. Then the monitoring system raises an alert if there's no data within the last X minutes. You can of course be more fancy if you want to report the number of entries processed, the time it took, etc.
- mnmadhukar 2y agoyup, may i know which programming language do you guys use on which cron runs ?
- t312227 2y agohello, i'm not quite sure what you mean by "monitoring" ... but i do 2 things * enable logs to some log-collection facility a la (remote)syslog/elk/grafana loki/... * enable metrics for example with prometheus-pushgateway for more information * https://github.com/prometheus/pushgateway https://github.com/prometheus/pushgateway from its description: "The Prometheus Pushgateway exists to allow ephemeral and batch jobs to expose their metrics to Prometheus." just my 0.02€
- mnmadhukar 2y agoisn't this so much to do ?
- t312227 2y agoimho. (!) no :)) 1. write something to syslog is really easy ... 2. prometheus pushgateway is more or less a REST api call (with JSON data) just my 0.02€
- mnmadhukar 2y agoIt took me 3 days to understand this message :), btw thanks for your opinion!
- mnmadhukar 2y ago0.02€ per request cron request ?
