- zamadatix 2y agoThat's a related but different conversation (adding support for extraction vs creating). Hard to tell just from the current headline though.
- Fnoord 2y agoScreenshot shows compress to, but text explains it is also decompression. I was downloading OPNsense today, to upload it to my Proxmox install. Couldn't bunzip2 the ISO file on Windows 10, and it would not accept an upload of iso.bz2. I guess I have to fix the WSL install, but in this case I ended up using curl on a Linux machine.
- woleium 2y agoDo the cygwin binaries not work any more? i have a folder of exe files for common linux tools i drop into windows/system32 on a new install
- CoolCold 2y agoFor myself I wouldn't use Cygwin binaries in the way you describe, will prefer doing things in WSL instead. YMMV of course, just saying my prefs.
- yjftsjthsd-h 2y agoYou could also use https://cosmo.zip/ https://cosmo.zip/ ex https://cosmo.zip/pub/cosmos/bin/bzip2 https://cosmo.zip/pub/cosmos/bin/bzip2 should work on Windows. Or you could just grab cosmos-3.3.1.zip from https://justine.lol/cosmo3/ https://justine.lol/cosmo3/ and have approximately a whole posix-ish environment that works on most modern OSs.
- ranger_danger 2y ago> Windows 11 beta now supports creating 7-Zip and TAR archives It already supported decompressing them in 23H2, FWIW.
- wkat4242 2y agoNow rar also...
- dvfjsdhgfv 2y ago(1) 10 year or so too late, (2) MS would have to try much harder to convince people to migrate - it seem they have run out of ideas and just focus on monetizing the OS without any regard for the opinions of their customers. [0] [0] Maybe with one exception: the ability to ungroup windows on taskbar is finally coming back after a few years.
- mmaniac 2y agoI found it to be painfully slow, so I'm sticking with 7zip. Explorer integration is excellent in 7zip already anyway.
