Japan has 1000x more accessible food within walking distance than America does, plus vending machines EVERYWHERE. I think it’s mostly smaller portions and not eating sugar in huge quantities.
- banish-m4 2y agoAmerica doesn't need vending machines. It has UberEats, DoorDash, and Domino's pizza to deliver ultraprocessed shit. Also, Americans don't do walking.

That can't be the deciding factor. >Also, Americans don't do walking. Walking is a very low effort activity. Good infrastructure usually means that you do little walking and a lot of standing around, this can't account for such a massive difference.
- Karrot_Kream 2y agoJapan has Uber Eats and Dominos also and they're very popular. There are literal cafes in Tokyo where you can get Uber Eats delivered to and eat there.
- constantcrying 2y ago>I think it’s mostly smaller portions Did people 70 years ago in the West just happen to eat smaller portions? >eating sugar in huge quantities. But sugar consumption, per capital, is decreasing. And has done so for decades, when will obesity rates follow?
- xenospn 2y agoAre you implying that people who eat less sugar still gain weight?
- constantcrying 2y agoWhat? No I am point out the fact that reducing sugar consumption has not reduced obesity rates in the US, so blaming sugar makes no sense.
