That's for a 10 MWh battery. Does that mean that a 50 KWh battery would charge in less than 4 seconds?
"The state utility says the 10 MWh sodium-ion battery energy storage station uses 210 Ah sodium-ion battery cells that charge to 90% in a mindblowing 12 minutes"
- Arnt 2y agoWouldn't charging in four seconds require a lot of electronics and a very large number of very small cells, but be simple apart from that? (Conceptually simple, not inexpensive.)
- JPLeRouzic 2y agoYes, you are right, I guess charging batteries in seconds is possible with any battery technology if they are assembled from a very large number of very small cells. This induces a cabling problem. The weight and cost of copper could become very large except if they are very high voltage batteries which means high electronics cost. Somehow fuel cells are a much better idea than electrical batteries for fast "charging", in addition, they offer a clean and efficient way to generate electricity possibly by absorbing CO2.
