I don't even think you need a conspiratorial angle here. Boeing has a lot of whistleblowers. At least 30 active whistleblower cases that I can find, let alone the hundreds of others they have had and closed in previous years. So on one hand, it makes no sense that Boeing would just target a couple, especially from their non-beleaguered divisions. And on the other hand, it still does not reflect well on Boeing that they have such a large pool of whistleblowers that coincidences like this could be very likely legitimate.
