who are those people and why is this on HN, esp front page?
- jjgreen 2y agoCensorship I guess, this can't be reported in the UK (and the New Yorker geoblocks the UK) since there is an appeal pending. Kind of silly in the age of TCP/IP.
- frereubu 2y agoI mean, it's on the front page because people upvoted it. "On-Topic: Anything that good hackers would find interesting. That includes more than hacking and startups. If you had to reduce it to a sentence, the answer might be: anything that gratifies one's intellectual curiosity." https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- squirrel 2y agoLucy Letby is a nurse recently convicted in the UK of murder of a number of babies in the ward she worked on: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_Letby https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_Letby . Rachel Aviv https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Aviv https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Aviv wrote a piece in the New Yorker about the case that raises doubts about the accuracy of the verdict: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_Letby#Doubts_about_conviction https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucy_Letby#Doubts_about_convic... . This article is not available in the UK due to a court order: https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/may/15/mp-uses-parliamentary-privilege-to-ask-why-lucy-letby-story-blocked-in-uk https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/article/2024/may/15/mp-u... The case, and the suppression of the article, is about a current event and touches on issues of censorship and the uses of statistics that are often discussed here on HN.
- kwhitefoot 2y agoI would ask: Why did it slip off the front page so quickly? It's surely a more interesting story than yet another repost of ADSL works over wet string.
