How to Use VS Code on FreeBSD
- cyberpunk 2y agoWhat is the purpose of this “tutorial”? It literally says to run “pkg install vscode” and then start it by typing “vscode”… Are FreeBSD users (of which I am one) really unable to use the package manager? Who is this aimed at?
- CoolCold 2y ago> What is the purpose of this “tutorial”? To highlight the minor/not that minor differences and likely to send a message "FreeBSD is still something to consider!" I.e.: > Note: Check the file locations where VS Code is configured to find them. rust-analyzer, for instance, will give an error because the VS Code extension searches a different file than where it is stored on FreeBSD. To quickly fix this issue: > Are FreeBSD users (of which I am one) really unable to use the package manager? Who is this aimed at? To highlight the fact that packages are still somewhat not cool, as there is a note in the article: > Note: As of this guide being written, Electron is blacklisted from the package builder. As this is a dependency of the vscode package, this may mean you will have to build VS Code from the ports collection: AFAIR, in 2010-2011, I personally had issue that "screen" was not in binary packages, still packages to be taken with caution, even after introduction of `pkg` tool.
