UHD Blu-ray Denies Your Freedom
- not_your_vase 2y ago> The flavor of AACS used by UHD Blu-ray further attacks users' freedom (and possibly privacy) by forcing them to connect to a company server to download the decryption keys. Wait a sec. 4k Blu-ray players must be online to play a disc? I myself only have BD players for regular discs (which I never connected online), but a few times I was really thinking about getting a UHD player for a couple of my favorite movies... but if they must be online, I will just try to survive on the 4k rips that fall off of the 4k-video-transporting-truck...
- wmf 2y agoThis probably only applies to Windows. Hardware players don't need Internet access.

- jimbobthrowawy 2y agoI have to assume from this that AACS 2.1 hasn't been defeated yet, unlike the original AACS?
- RealStickman_ 2y agoAACSv2 was circumvented late last year. https://media.ccc.de/v/37c3-12296-full_aacsess_exposing_and_exploiting_aacsv2_uhd_drm_for_your_viewing_pleasure https://media.ccc.de/v/37c3-12296-full_aacsess_exposing_and_...
