Show HN: I built "TeamViewer with AI" with GPT-4o for my dad's computer troubles
Hey HN,
My dad often struggles with using his computer and calls me multiple times a week to ask for help.
We used to try to diagnose things via FaceTime (which was always a struggle), until a friend told me about TeamViewer, which made things much easier.
However, at this point in my life, I am either too busy working or outside the house and can’t access TeamViewer, which is why I have started to help my dad less and less.
When the chatGPT iOS app was released, I was completely blown away by its speech abilities.
When my dad called me the very same day for another computer problem, I thought “Why not automate this using AI?”
So I created helpmee.ai, which I believe can solve most of the problems my dad typically calls me for.
It uses openAI’s Whisper for transcription, GPT-4o for reasoning and analyzing the computer screen, and openAI’s Text-To-Speech.
If you are interested, give it a try and I would love to hear your feedback.

- timtanida 2y agoP.S. Watching the GPT-4o demo on Tuesday, I believe my web app works in a similar way to openAI’s future desktop app, which seems to take a screenshot whenever the user stops speaking.
- RS3714 2y agoThe website looks very nice. But like you pointed out, what is the advantage of this compared to openAI's future desktop app? Seems like it will do the same thing.
- timtanida 2y agoThanks, I appreciate it (it's the first website I built)! Well, the announcement on Tuesday caught me by surprise, so honestly, I think the core functionality of my web app and their's will be the same. However, I plan on quickly implementing and iterating on user requests, so maybe my web app could become customized/tailored to individual needs, whereas openAI's app would have more broader user appeal.
- jaggs 2y agoI think it looks great. Yes, Omni will probably eat your lunch. But one thing you might have going for you is on-boarding. Not everyone is going to be OK with signing up for OpenAI tools, so that might help. The other suggestion I would make is to move away from solely a monthly subscription model, and allow for a Credits feature. That way people who only occasionally need parent support can just use their credits on the go. Finally I would consider ways you can simplify the UI down to the bare bones. If you're really talking about technophobes, then anything distracting on the main screen is going to be a problem. Think the Google search box. Good luck!
- timtanida 2y agoThank you for your feedback and suggestions! The credits feature is a good idea. I considered it too, but I thought people may feel pressured to make the sessions as short as possible, which would make the overall experience worse. However, a good middle ground would be to just implement it in addition to the subscription model, and see which one users prefer. Regarding the UI, that was definitely my itention! Maybe I can simplify it even further though, I will consider it!
