Just code dumb shit to impress your friends
- JohnFen 2y agoAm I the only one who has never felt any of the stuff that the essay talks about? > You lose site of the craft, instead it becomes about silly externalities. Concerns like “will I get credit” or “can I avoid blame”. You worry if you can keep up with the cool, new, trendy thing (AI, blockchain, whatever) to continue to have a viable career. I've never worried about any of that, nor have I ever "lost sight of the craft". I've also never coded anything, dumb or otherwise, to impress anybody whether they're friends or not. I've always coded dumb (and not dumb) shit because it entertained me, I needed the program, or I got paid to do it. I'm just curious as to how much of a freak that makes me.
