Raspberry Pi Ltd is wholly owned by the Raspberry Pi Foundation, and profits from the company’s sales help fund the foundation’s work. It didn’t make sense to have the same person be head of both the foundation and the for-profit company, so Upton stepped down from the foundation CEO role in 2013. That news release does not mention let alone explain E Upton's resignation from the foundation one year prior.
