  I should have added an /s to my last sentence. The story is newsworthy on its own right. I emphasized how much more newsworthy it could have been had the shooter been pro-democracy, i.e. "Man bites dog."

Maybe, but the motivation is unclear. Lone wolves killing somebody with such wide difference in status just because, without a expected big reward to make worth the risk... is not so common. Can't fall to remind the scene in Batman where the Joker steals a bank ordering secretly each member in the team to kill its sidekick, just to be killed later by the next member in the team. I wonder if Cintula will fall victim of an unfortunate accident in a few weeks. Putin allies knowing things that could be embarrassing or dangerous seem to be rewarded for all this efforts, with a seat in the special program to close the lose ends. Enemies and friends, all the same.
