This was a bit surprising that FBI confiscated employees personal devices. Do they have the authority to do that?

- pvaldes 2y agoEven without terrorism, if they really tried to manipulate the engine to save gas, a charge of constructive manslaughter [1] could be easily raised at least. With several workers killed, I doubt that the crew will be allowed to resume their normal lives for a lot of time. [1] UPDATE, or maybe not. It seems that this category has changed to include only violating crime laws, not maritime law.
- kapilvt 2y agoNot disagreeing but one relevant fact this article seems to leave out, that crew was not in charge of the boat at the time of the crash, which makes their situation atm a bit sad imho. Harbor pilots were in control and navigating at the time of the crash, also don’t think they did anything wrong either. But unreliable electric systems on big ships isnt something that’s easily planned for, momentum on those things is crazy at that weight. https://apnews.com/article/ship-pilots-baltimore-bridge-collapse-0730504bbc045473cf0e15f5fdc38534 https://apnews.com/article/ship-pilots-baltimore-bridge-coll...
