Racing driverless cars is pushing autonomous technology
- joshu 2y agoI started an event series at a much lower level: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/11/business/self-racing-cars.html https://www.nytimes.com/2019/04/11/business/self-racing-cars... Personally, I think that limiting it to specific entrance from universities and having very high-end vehicles (these are dallara Indy lights) overly narrows the field for competition and thus innovation.
- cactusplant7374 2y agoHow much have you spent to get started?
- joshu 2y agoI run the event, not build the cars. People have entered with RC cars and up to full size porsches
- consp 2y agoFormula Student, mostly Germany, (FSAE for the USA) has been pushing this for a few years (slow start in 2019, ramped up in '21) , much less expensive than the indy light cars. The cars always seem to like messing with the timekeeping equipment (example https://tk.formulastudent.de/404 https://tk.formulastudent.de/404)

- squarefoot 2y agoBrought memories of RARS first then TORCS, that allowed writing software racing car simulations for a while, so I guess if driverless cars and tracks used in real races models could be fed to the above software, they could be used as simulators. https://rars.sourceforge.net/ https://rars.sourceforge.net/ https://sourceforge.net/projects/torcs/ https://sourceforge.net/projects/torcs/
