Ask HN: How is generated media being stored?

Every time I see generated images on a web forum (discord/twitter/reddit etc) i ask myself how the growth of this data is being handled by all these servers. The amount of data must have increased way beyond any regular metrics based predictions (suddenly exponential?). Or are we equally good at producing storage devices at the same rate and its not a problem at all in an foreseeable future?
