Hacked or not, I would be suspicious of anything closed source and connected to the Internet, especially if it has cameras, mikes, can roam around and possibly access to the local network too. This robot is insanely cool, but to me the chances that it contains code that phones home to do more than simply upgrading it are too high, like in every closed device.
