Ask HN: Can we please get dark mode?
Hard on the eyes at night.

- istillwritecode 2y agoDoes Firefox send a header to request this?
- infotainment 2y agoNo need to -- there's a CSS media query, "prefers-color-scheme", which allows a website to apply styles conditionally depending on whether or not the user is in dark mode.
- mediumsmart 2y agoYou can have dark mode in reader mode with Orion on iOS or macOS but you are supposed to sleep at night.
- mrbirddev 2y agoI dont think HN will ever change its styling... However, try some extensions which gives you dark mode 1. Modern for Hacker News 2. Dark reader
- guiambros 2y agoHere's my fork [1] of the excellent DarkHacker Chrome extension [2]. - 3vidence 2y agoShout out to my horrible Flutter HN project https://github.com/rsimmons1/FlutterHnReader https://github.com/rsimmons1/FlutterHnReader I created it for 3 reasons: 1) practice with Flutter 2) I wanted dark mode 3) I was getting really tired of chatGPT posts at the time so I added a topic filter. I will openly admit it is not nearly as the HN website which IMO is a masterpiece. If you enjoy hacking your own apps together feel free to fork it and creating your own experience. P.s. Really not a plug just thought it was relevant and a bit personally humorous.
- lobito14 2y agoThis dark mode mania is truly annoying. Why can't you people understand that many users cannot read in dark mode?
