US investors pricing out trailer residents [video]

- Bostonian 2y agoReal estate investors earn money largely through rent. The will not price out current residents unless they can attract new residents, perhaps by upgrading their properties. Rising rent is a risk you face as a tenant. You can avoid it by buying, but then you face the risk of falling prices and rising property taxes. In general, high housing prices are caused by limited supply, not investors.
- b3ing 2y agoMany people living in these trailers can’t afford a “real” house.

Second, when you have a local monopoly like this, there is rarely any risk, which might be the main reason why the new invester bought the place. Third, those who build homes for rent are the ones who profit from high rents. Thats why you have large investors buying up property and increasing the rent everywhere (maybe even to pay the loan for that purchase) because its easier to build. You can see this all over large cities in the west. Saying that the price went up because of short supply is like saying martin skrelli absurdly increased insulin prices because people need it so badly.
