This sunburn scare needs to go away already. Kids aren't getting skin cancer en masse from playing outside for a little bit each day.
Outdoor classes used to be pretty common, so being outdoors isn't even necessarily bad for learning maths...
- londons_explore 2y agoTotal column ozone has been dropping for a long time: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/348839525/figure/fig5/AS:984941286395925@1611839710816/Latitudinal-variation-of-total-column-ozone-for-different-years.png https://www.researchgate.net/publication/348839525/figure/fi... That means UV exposure outdoors is worse now than it used to be. Unfortunately, it seems nobody measured UV at ground level before we started destroying the ozone layer, but there are barely any historical accounts of serious sunburn before ~1930. Everyone just talks of heat stroke and dehydration rather than actual burning/peeling of the skin.
- vraid 2y agoPeople in Europe and North America generally wore hats and long sleeved clothing before the 1900's. Sun tanning is a modern phenomenon.

- sandworm101 2y ago>> This sunburn scare needs to go away already. Kids aren't getting skin cancer It isn't about cancer. It is about modern standards of beauty. Sun ages skin. People learned to avoid the sun because of cancer, but they hide in the shade today to keep their skin looking youthful.
- elric 2y agoIs that really a thing? The hiding, I mean, not the aging. Tanning certainly ages skin. But just being outdoors, going about your day, wearing sensible clothing?
