Ask HN: Why Debian got called for keepassxc patch when other Distros do similar?
other distros and os, think the bsds especially openbsd, patch things out and make unilateral decisions for users often. why did debian get so called out but not these others when they do a same effect?
- PurpleRamen 2y agoBecause they break the existing behavior. And Debian is all about stability and reliability, unlike OpenBSD, which aims for uncompromised security. Nobody would have complained it Debian had done this from the beginning, but when they break it, people complain.
- transportheap 2y agoopenbsd was just an example. other distros and os do patches all the time including changing features but only debian gets called out.
- PurpleRamen 2y agoThose patches are usually backports, for security, or better integration. They do not break something on purpose.
