The JavaScript Trap
- mrbluecoat 2y agoWhy not just title the post "Show HN: LibreJS"? The FUD vibe seemed unusually dissonant for GNU.

- rramadass 2y agoThere is no FUD here and the title is appropriate. It is an interesting article titled "The JavaScript Trap" by Richard Stallman and worth reading. As one solution to this problem it mentions LibreJS in a single line only and nothing more than that.

- dtagames 2y agoWhile it might feel like a trap for some users, relying on "non-free" software (in other words, most software) is a trap the vast majority of users are happy to get into. They would prefer to have modern websites with fairly advanced stuff, all of which is easy to do in JavasScript and already working. The genie won't go back in the bottle just because a few purists liked it better that way.
- rolph 2y agosecurity, and abuse are major issues that override modern. overriding a users chosen browser functionality, is abusive, and hostile. https://medium.com/codex/why-javascript-is-hated-among-programmers-6547d26f44d0 https://medium.com/codex/why-javascript-is-hated-among-progr...
