The Birth, Boom and Bust of the Hard Disk Drive [video]
- csours 2y agoHard drives were the original case study for Disruptive Innovation, iirc. https://claytonchristensen.com/key-concepts/ https://claytonchristensen.com/key-concepts/ This reminds me of a prediction Christensen made - that small, short range EVs might disrupt the automotive market. They don't fit exactly the same role as highway legal vehicles do, but they do fill a job that needs to be done, for a much lower price than traditional vehicles.
- ggm 2y agoThe H-H index [0] is an interesting discussion element, about "how many" disk drive manufacturers is "enough" when it comes to a market. SSD haven't managed to entirely push HDD aside, because of price/size issues. But, market concentration in the supply chain behind SSD is even worse than in HDD.
