Ask HN: Who wholesales sugar by the metric tonne?

My Pops came up to me and said he needs to find 12-15 thousand metric tonnes of sugar each month for a charity he runs... he asked me to look on the internets... I looked back and thought there is no way the internets know who can move that much sugar. And he wants similar quantities of condensed milk. Does anybody have any idea where I start to find the right person to supply such quantities of sugar and condensed milk on a monthly contract? (makes deciding on a mobile monthly contract seem relatively easy...) Thanks, Rayhan

Are you sure you/he mean/s "thousand metric tonnes" and not "thousand metric kilos" ?? A thousand metric tonnes of sugar is quite a lot ... And how does he want it delivered? 12 thousand metric tonnes of sugar is 12 million 1kg bags. Does he want it in bags? Or loose by the trailer load? A quick search suggests that in the UK, Pheonix (sic) Business Ltd will deliver a minimum order of 12500 metric tonnes for you.   12,000 kilos = 12 metric tons ; He probably referred to it one way one time and the other way another time and the poster conflated them.

Go direct to brand name manufacturers and they will refer you to their distributor (usually a trading co) Curious - what's the charity?

  The sugar (and powdered milk) is for feeding the poor in Dhaka (Bangladesh).

For quantities in that magnitude, you need to find a brokerage. You'll probably want to look into investing in futures to hedge prices and find multiple suppliers for a stable supply chain. 12,000,000 kg of sugar...yikes!
