One of the reasons I prefer reference counting. While it does a little less, the complexity tradeoff just makes more sense to me.

  Having dealt with many, many reference counting bugs in Python extensions, I disagree.

  It's not less complex because it doesn't handle cycles, and naive ref counting performs much worse than naive tracing.
