Sam Altman Proposes "Universal Basic Compute" Instead of UBI - Through OpenAI
- anonzzzies 2y agoOut of touch / delusional. And according to this Twitter person, it's 'responsibility of the people' to have an income. As if some 'law of nature' says this is a thing. It's not, it's just what happens when there is scarcity.
- fsniper 2y agoGPT as Basic necessity!?!?!
- mysterydip 2y agoIf your goal is to get in as many homes as possible but also not pay for it, convincing the government it's a basic necessity seems to be a way to do it.
- NotGMan 2y agoGood luck getting fed and having your basic shelter needs met by a "slice of GPT time".
- quantified 2y agoAs I see it, he could be not articulating the impact of his idea. If I owned a slice of GPT-7 productivity and sold it to someone else, that's my basic income. If I didn't need that baseline of cash I could use it for something else. I'm a bit dubious, I doubt the economics work. But it's not like Elon Musk has suggested that cars or satellites could be a universal basic good.
- codinganarchy 2y agoThis is literally just a scheme for the government to pay Altman’s company a fixed amount for every single citizen. The ultimate in crony capitalist bullshit. One wonders if he is struggling to find a way to make the value of GPT models worth the price he needs to charge to keep them working.
- JSDevOps 2y agoYeah, Good luck with GPT-7 when you have governments paying £35,000 a month on Floppy Disks to run Critical National Infrastructure.
