The Smartest People in the Room Are All Listening to the Same Podcast
- goryramsy 2y agoSeems like a very editorialized title. The podcast is called ‘Aquired’ and it’s recently become semi-popular.
- chmod775 2y agoIdolizing and elevating some individuals or groups above others in a cringe-worthy fashion isn't exactly a new thing in media. It's not unlike music fandoms. Given this is the Wall Street Journal, the author either really likes Wall Street and Silicon Valley, or writing the press article equivalent of a handjob is just what pays the bills.
- faeriechangling 2y agoI've listened to it to the point of running out of decent new episodes. It's doing an extra-long format that not many people do, there's lots of research, lots of enthusiasm, narratives of some plucky underdog taking over the freaking planet, a mixture of business and history, and it's just executed well. Also a decent chunk of obligatory and shameless shilling. Never struck me as something "the smartest people in the room" would listen to. More seems like it would appeal to the aspirational and/or nerdy set, the crossover with the Hacker News audience has to be huge.
- maroonblazer 2y agoArticle is paywalled so I can't read it, but I devour podcasts like potato chips and I've never heard of 'Acquired'. Curious to hear from others if it's worth adding to my pile of podcast shame.
- smitty1e 2y agoI've been binging on https://www.classicalstuff.net/ https://www.classicalstuff.net/ this year. It's not much more than pump priming for the topics on offer, but that lends itself to driving, as one doesn't want to get too enmeshed. But they find the fun in dry material.
- CharleFKane 2y agoOh, wow! Another “Classical Stuff…” fan! Excellent!
- smitty1e 2y agoI'm almost halfway through the series.

Among them are Daniel Ek, Spotify’s chief executive, who says it’s one of his favorite shows, and Eddy Cue, one of Apple’s top executives, who listens during his work commute.
- OutOfHere 2y agoIf your goal is to learn information about a topic, AI can orient you about it quite well, assuming it knows the topic or has access to information about it. To this end, I now listen mainly just to https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/podgenai https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/podgenai , although I am also subscribed to regular podcasts to discover new topics.

- watersb 2y agoIf I were in that room, I'm not sure this headline would still be true.
