What does the literature say about population density and fertility?
- PaulHoule 2y agoNice to see people waking up to the problem of people dogpiling in capital cities again. It was generally seen to be a problem up until 1980 https://www.amazon.com/Dispersing-Population-James-L-Sundquist/dp/0815782136 https://www.amazon.com/Dispersing-Population-James-L-Sundqui... but then we got Margaret Thatcher and Reagan and globalization and once it was perceived that London was in mortal combat against New York, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, there was no will to disperse London’s business to the rest of the country, now the UK is ungovernable.
- marssaxman 2y agoThe global demographic transition is one of a short list of phenomena which genuinely give me hope that the ecological problems humanity faces might not be intractable; it's a great example of people choosing to do the sensible thing with no need for coordination or coercion. It's weird to watch someone worry about this positive trend, approaching it as a serious problem to be analyzed and solved! - but I suppose that is an experience a non-conservative person often has, while watching conservative/traditionalist mindsets in action.
