No One Knows What Universities Are For

- tuatoru 2y ago> In the tradition of Jonathan Swift, his modest proposal called to get rid of all faculty and students at Pomona so that the college could fulfill its destiny as an institution run by and for nonteaching bureaucrats. At the very least, he said, “the elimination of professors and students would greatly improve most colleges’ financial position.” I like this line of thinking. We could apply it in lots of places. Hospitals could get rid of costly medical staff and patients. The military could eliminate civilians and their pesky need for protection. Governments can eliminate voters and their annoying opinions.
- johnea 2y ago> "What do these people actually do?” > "they spend much of their day living in an alternate universe called Meeting World" This has also been true in the corps for decades. Especially the C-suite, but also most mid-level marketing and other managers.
