So much space that used to be occupied by political discussion is now devoted to status signalling disguised as political discussion, and the disingenuous presentation that comes with it. People will loudly proclaim a moralistic stance on a massive-scale social issue that they have little to no control over purely to signal status to peers and avoid dealing with bothersome things they're avoiding in their own lives. It's a worrying trend.
