You can index the json expression directly, but yes it's convenient. Also the intent was probably to store JSON as BSON blob for faster access, but the example needs to insert jsonb('jsonstring') to achieve that. Rest of the example can stay unchanged. SQLite has exceptionally readable documentation, I recommend just reading whole relevant chapter before using some functions.
