Ask HN: A language with a fault-tolerant runtime
I have been using temporal.io for the last year and was quite impressed by it's fault-tolerant runtime, making my development experience much better.
And I thought today, that wouldn't it be cool if there was a language with temporal-like runtime? Where all Temporal's primitives would be baked in the language itself and where potential errors could be caught during the compilation step.
- anonzzzies 2y agoErlang/OTP is the closest I think. At least that I know of. We are building this in Common Lisp so it's dynamic, indeed also based on positive experiences with Temporal. Everything should work like that.
- dils 2y agoHeard a lot about Erlang, but still couldn't get how it is can be compared to temporal.
- anonzzzies 2y agoErlang with OTP was designed to create very robust processes with all kinds of flows and temporal (...) effects that can recover and restart single processes when a process (which can be on whatever server) fails. Processes are little 'servers' which are governed by supervisors which detect issues and restart them. Nano-services let's say but with a robust tried-and-tested foundation.
