  It helps with convergence of iOS and macOS, supporting both Macbook keyboard (laptop) and detached slate (mobile) form factors. There are professionals who operate in space-constrained physical environments, e.g. superthin iPad + rugged case with other electronics can still be close to laptop form factor. On a related note, there are 90/180 degree USB-C M/M and M/F 40Gbps adapters.

    I’m sure that there are professionals who operate in spaces where they need to use it above their head, or while skydiving. I’m not sure why small numbers of professionals would or should affect the whole product.
