Theranos fraudster Elizabeth Holmes has prison sentence reduced again
- excsn 2y ago> The 40-year-old Holmes is now scheduled for release on 16 August 2032 from a federal women’s prison camp in Bryan, Texas, according to the US Bureau of Prisons website. > Holmes’s sentence was reduced by more than four months, as her previous release date was set for 29 December 2032. ... > This is the second time that Holmes has had her sentence shortened. In July, was reduced by two years.
- endominus 2y agoShe was originally sentenced to "over 11 years" in November of 2022, meaning that after 17 months, she has come 43 months closer to release. At this rate of reduction, she will likely be back on the streets and preying on Wall Street by the summer of 2027.
- soco 2y agoLots of board places for her, as she seems to have the right skillset for Wall Street. Also, it's at least interesting to see live how money can actually buy freedom.
- more_corn 2y agoThere are two legal systems in the United States. The one for rich and powerful people and the one for everyone else. These two systems treat people wildly differently. There is nothing just about our justice system. When we do not all receive equal treatment under the law the system has failed.
- bilekas 2y ago> The latest reduction of Holmes’s sentence still meets federal sentencing guidelines. Those guidelines mandate that people convicted of federal offenses must serve at least 85% of their sentence, regardless of reductions for good behavior. If its within guidelines then thats the standard.. There is nothing going on here. Edit to clarify: There are better examples than this one to complain about the justice system.
- java-man 2y agoLike when Paris Hilton walked out of jail after 45 minutes?
- bilekas 2y agoExactly like that, here Holmes has had the sentence reduced by a few months. It's not even significant. These particular rules are the same for everyone. How they're applied and imposed is a different story though.
- sonicanatidae 2y ago>There are better examples than this one to complain about the justice system. True, but why bring the Count of Mostly Crisco into this?
- btwillard 2y agoAs others here are saying, the rules are the same for everyone in that anyone can effectively buy their freedom (even if only gradually over time). The practical difference is that most people can't afford it.
- mft_ 2y ago"...slightly"
- netule 2y agoSince they’re not releasing why her sentence was reduced, it probably wasn’t due to good behavior or the other regular stuff. To me, this reeks of cooperation with authorities.
