The replies from Googlers in this thread surprise me. I've actually found DDs very useful for team onboarding, and for async stakeholder communications when making changes. Design docs typically also lead to fantastic g3doc documentation. It's a much better experience than having to fish around the team to piece together fragments of tribal knowledge about design choices for a system.
