Can anyone explain logically for lottery being legal and startup investing not?
Can anyone explain to me logically that lottery and gambling being %100 legal and direct startup investing is not for avg joe? My intelligent does not understand beyond it's only not legal to keep rich really rich. So some part of investing is illegal because it gives positive returns. Gambling is legal with very very low chance of return in long term or no return. It's statistical fact.

- verdverm 2y agoThe main issue with unaccredited investing is the scammer fooling the investor. Just look at crypto coins to see what unregulated "investing" leads to. Gambling becoming increasingly legal is a problem. It's leading to some very unhealthy addictions for the most vulnerable and those that can least afford it. Ironically, it's likely some startups lobbying contributed to the changing landscape. (sports betting startups)
- user90131313 2y agoLottery and addictive gambling and games are also fooling with extra steps? Like chance of winning the lottery is so low that sometimes nobody wins.
- verdverm 2y agoGambling is a form of entertainment for most people. For a few it is disastrous. Same idea that keeps games like Candy Crush afloat... 1% of the users account for 99% of the revenue (napkin math) There are more people treating "investing" as a form of gambling or short term game they can play to get ahead. For example, they engage in chart patterns, options, shorting, and day trading. Think WallStreetBets, GameStop, AMC

- quantified 2y agoIn other words: you have a better chance of not being scammed (better chance of fair play) gambling. As far as the odds of breaking even or doubling your money- who knows? I think the other point is: if you're not wealthy and you lose a large sum, it has a huge impact, maybe destitution. If you are wealthy and you lose the same large sum, it won't matter so much to you. Investment isn't generally in $5 or $10 amounts. (Maybe there's an investment model available, but that's where the scammers prey.)
- bell-cot 2y agoLaws are made by politicians, not logical & benevolent public policy experts. And direct startup investing ain't no Field of Dreams fantasy. The vast majority of startups fail. Plus - large-scale scamming operations exist, and average Joe's are often easy prey.
- JohnFen 2y agoYes, it's basic consumer protection. Historically, ordinary people have been taken to the cleaners by bad actors taking advantage of their lack of expertise in high-risk investing.
