Thankfully this feature will increasingly ship with our phones/wearables. Both of which are capable of getting updates to how they talk to 911 (whatever your car does is how it'll talk to 911 the rest of its life, nobody is ever gonna update that). The most specific thing the car will know your phone/watch won't is airbag deployment status. "call 911 if emergency occurs" is exactly how they justified getting all the data collection and transmission equipment in the first place.
