I think we need more of this. Yank out the connectivity and be sure it's actually not sending anything.
- schiffern 2y agoGigabytes of storage costs pennies, so manufacturers can (and probably already do) just save the logs locally and download everything when it comes to the dealership for service. The data is slightly less valuable because it's not available in real-time, but they get the data regardless. This is how Tesla currently handles diagnostic logs if a vehicle's network access is shut off. Based on their history so far, I expect the other automakers will be worse on data privacy, not better.
- kube-system 2y agoI doubt anyone other than Tesla is doing that. Other automakers probably just aren't bothering, and they also don't have the vertically integrated service model that Tesla does.
- cameldrv 2y agoAnother option might be pulling the GPS antenna. It can't give away data it can't collect.
- pseudalopex 2y agoWhat can you pull to stop acceleration and brake tracking?
- axelthegerman 2y agoThe throttle cable duh! JK good point
- axelthegerman 2y agoPossible, if there would be proof could probably just go to a trusted 3P service - well not for Tesla I guess
