Show HN: I made an app to boost your daily productivity
- byPandaDev 2y agoHey HN, I have been working from home for a long time and often have problems concentrating at work. Over time, I've found a few tricks that help me stay focused and motivated at work. So I created 64Hacks to collect the best productivity Hacks for everybody. - Browse and upvote your favorite hacks - Write your own to help others The site is new, I launched it a few days ago. I'll consider every feedback posted here to improve it. byPandaDev
- atmanactive 2y agoGreat idea, thanks for this. I found the category selection process extremely frustrating. The site just presents a huge drop-down list where contributors now need to sift through and hope they'll choose the right one. This is unmanageable. For such a daunting task (choosing the right category), I would suggest a tree-like, multi-modal set of drop-downs, or a simple quiz (wizard), or something.
- byPandaDev 2y agoHey atmanactive, Thanks for your answer. What exactly is your vision of the category selection? Do you want a main category and these main categories have subcategories where you can choose from? To find the right category easier, I've added a search function to it. Looking forward to further feedback
- atmanactive 2y agoYes, exactly. Instead of presenting several dozen categories, try to group them to as few as possible, and then, when the user chooses the main group, then open the drop-down with just those subgroups. Three levels max, of course, although, with clever thinking, you could probably get away with just two. For example, is this new post personal or technical? Is it about the O/S or an app? Hardware or software? And so on. On the other hand, a simple search/filter definitely helps.
- atmanactive 2y agoPlease add remaining-characters-counters. I understand that the site needs to limit the amount of text a submitter can post, but it is very frustrating when textarea just refuses my inputs. The UX is horrible. If there was a tiny counter (like all proper SMS apps have), then, the cutoff would be expected and expectations set straight even before we start typing. Thanks!
- byPandaDev 2y agoHey atmanactive, Thanks for your reply. I've added the feature, and it will be online very soon. Hope this improves the overall UX. But what is also wrong with the UX, because you said “The UX is horrible”?
- atmanactive 2y agoWell, just the you-are-typing-but-I'm-ignoring-your-input-just-like-that-out-the-blue experience. Nothing else. :)
- byPandaDev 2y agoI'm sorry, but where do I ignore the input?
- atmanactive 2y agoIn the textarea input. If you set textarea maxlength to X and the user is not aware of it and types a message over X, what happens?
- byPandaDev 2y agoI've also increased the max chars for the description/comment from 300 to 600.
