Show HN: I made a tool to find the best web hosting based on your needs
Hey,
Recently, I was blindsided by my web hosting plan renewing at almost double its initial cost. This unpleasant surprise prompted me to create Match My Hosting. As a hobby coder, I built this straightforward tool in my spare time using dead simple PHP, HTML, and JS with the massive help of ChatGPT-4.
The tool currently includes around 30 providers with 120 different packages. It uses Trustpilot reviews to guide the recommendations, ensuring you choose a host that's not only technically suitable but also well-regarded by users.
And to avoid any surprises, it also clearly displays both the initial and renewal prices.
Would love to get feedback from you.
Mark

- billconan 2y agois this about static site hosting? I tried it, it recommended me namecheap, but I'm not sure if I have ssh access to set up anything, or it just hosts static sites.
- markfo 2y agoIt currently offers shared hosting packages but not limited to static sites. From my research, it seems like Namecheap does allow SSH (Jailshell SSH) in their cPanel hosting package.
- KomoD 2y agoIt's all affiliate links and all the plans it suggests are yearly or longer plans because that way he gets the most affiliate compensation. Don't go with any of these options and don't trust any of the suggestions, they are not honest. The prices also aren't even accurate. "$1.00/ month for 6 months", meanwhile the price is actually $6/mo for 36 months (billed 12mo in advance) and then $12/mo. "Business Package at $3.99/month for 48 months saving $480 compared to the regular price. It renews at the then-current rate, currently $8.99/month" That's also wrong, the price is $3.19 for 48 months not $3.99, the current renewal price is $12.99, not $8.99 The recommendations are also just absurd, I picked: 2-10 websites, 40-100gb storage, small traffic and performance needs, european audience, no domain, no email, no ssl, no backups, no moneyback guarantee It gave me a plan for 100 websites that costs $10/mo at renewal with "free" email and "free" domain (site says $7.99 but that's also wrong!)... it also suggested I should lock myself in for 48 months! "Best" in this case just means whatever makes the most affiliate revenue for this guy.
- siamese_puff 2y agoWhy aren’t we linking things like Cloudflare R2 or workers? I mean in 2024 this is really free hosting.. no need to pay for anything
- nateb2022 2y agoOracle Cloud has a very generous free tier, including a 4 vCPU 24GB RAM machine and two smaller 1 vCPU 1GB RAM machines. It also includes 200GB of storage to split between the instances however you like.
- achillesheels 2y agoPretty cool! I had not heard of inmotion hosting before, I hope you are able to make mad affiliate earnings with this :)
