Deep-space lasers smash data speed records over interplanetary distances
- zeristor 2y agoThe experiment was to confirm a working speed of 1 Mb, but they were able to get 25 Mb. That’s a huge improvement, I’m guessing they were being very cautious. No mention is made of what the data rate using radio was. This an absolutely huge improvement, especially for all imaging missions, and indeed setting up an interplanetary internet. How long before there’s a satellite in at the Earth’s Trojan point so that there’s blind spot when spacecraft are obscured by the Sun.
