Why?

- graypegg 2y agoThis is the "top 1,000,000 web sites", which is going to represent the majority if not all of the average user's experience of the internet. How much is "not everything"? I do tend to have some annoyances with the specifics of automated accessibility testing though. Tools generally overvalue metadata above human factors. (example: an image with out an alt tag might be irrelevant to the content of the site, and only serve to be a meaningless visual. They should add role="presentation" to it, but it's not as detrimental to the user experience as other cases treated the same by WAVE.) They are however, a good measure of how much developers care about alternative interaction mediums for their applications, and this shows a rather depressing downward trend.
- phendrenad2 2y agoHow many sites are there? I don't think anyone is proud of being in the top 1 MILLION sites, that just might qualify you as not being an AI-generated SEO trap.
- Izkata 2y ago> This is the "top 1,000,000 web sites", which is going to represent the majority if not all of the average user's experience of the internet. It's only home pages, not the whole web site, which would often be the marketing page on the large ones (check out what stackoverflow gives you when logged out, for example). They even say they skipped sites without a home page. This doesn't represent an average user's experience of the internet.
- lbotos 2y agoI once read a quote similar to this: "The able and the disabled aren't two different kinds of people but the same people at different times." And it was highlighting the idea that basically we are all gonna degrade at some point. That stuck with me and changed my view on how I should think about the people that might want to engage with things I make. Maybe seeing that quote will have the same impact on you. Maybe it won't.
- spacebacon 2y agoIn reality accessibility is going to be solved by the OS, browser, and browser plugins.
- corn13read2 2y agoFalse. Accessibility will be obviated by ai.
- hobotime 2y agoThat makes sense. Have your horrid website be parsed by an AI that outputs boring HTML for screen readers.
