I don't think anyone involved in a conflict really wants third party journalists around. Look at the consequences for Snowden, Assange and Manning. We probably need to mandate third party international journalist access as some kind of rules of war expectation. Otherwise basically any war crime can be waged with impunity until well after the fact if you can cutoff access to discover it
