Why would you want to join it though? I heard it’s pretty horrible to work there - below market pay, long hours, high stress, and you can be fired anytime with no advance notice. All of this is justified with “we’re going to Mars” rhetoric. I like what they’ve been able to accomplish, but I’d never even consider working there.
- CamperBob2 3y agoIt's not for everybody.
- JumpCrisscross 3y ago> below market pay Everyone I know who has worked there for >5 years is a millionaire, including some fairly junior people.
- ein0p 3y agoI’ll take “things that never happened for $1000”, JumpCrisscross: https://www.levels.fyi/companies/spacex/salaries https://www.levels.fyi/companies/spacex/salaries
- JumpCrisscross 3y agoNow include stock appreciation. (It’s up close to 10x in that time period. And that’s the principal way money is made in tech, not salaries.) Gimme my money.
- abduhl 3y agoWhat is the market for SpaceX shares? Are they liquid?
- JumpCrisscross 3y agoThey’re privately traded by institutions. The company also regularly does buybacks, and I’m referencing those prices.
- bagels 3y agoYeah, it happened. SpaceX offers RSUs and up until recently, valuations were climbing rapidly.
- dotnet00 3y agoBelow market pay, long hours, high stress, you can be fired anytime with no advance notice, so... just like the majority of research that isn't about amplifying doom scrolling. Yet people do it for the satisfaction of creating things no one else has before and pushing humanity forward.
