The most surprising detail of this story has has nothing to do with the wholly unsurprising fact that someone can buy off the notoriously self promoting and, err, entrepreneurial Hawass.
It's that one can become a billionaire from hawking yet another generic, unknown (to me, at least) loyalty points program. There must be hundreds of these in existence, but I've yet to meet anybody who actually uses them unless they are part of a larger product offering such as a well-known credit card, restaurant, retail store, airline etc. And even most of those seem hardly sufficient material to build a personal billion dollar fortune from.
