Maybe because we have a vested interest in denying that animals have sentience and thus deserve to be treated like organisms that feel pain and sorrow?
- zmgsabst 2y agoWe do that, though. Most people accept that animals experience sensations and take efforts to minimize their suffering, eg, when butchering, hunting, or fishing. We’re deeply concerned when people dont do that and, eg, torture small animals for fun.
