For the people scrolling for the pictures, the numbers on the drill indicate how far into the wood you want the screw to go, set lower so it stops with a bit sticking out (to hang a frame on let's say) or set it higher to drive the head into the wood for a flush surface. Different kinds of threading and woods make any kind of chart for this nonintuitive, you just gotta eyeball it and learn.
The bit on the end of a tape measure is similarly designed and ignored.
