  When it first started, OKCupid was about the perfect dating platform until Match.com bought it and totally killed the functionality with monetisation.

    I don't know if the timeline of events supports that entirely. Match.com bought OkCupid in 2011. OkCupid didn't start becoming Tinder-like until Match merged with Tinder in 2017. There was also very little changes made to OkCupid core functionality between 2011 and 2016. Most monetized features predated the match.com acquisition, though I think the price increased at some point.
