Similar story here with high school calc. My TI-89 had a better CAS than the TI-84. It's been 16 years, and I often find myself wishing I knew how to do basic integrals.
I get by, but I often feel a bit handicapped vs my peers. Like building a house on a shaky foundation.
- teaearlgraycold 3y agoIt all depends on your life, but for me just knowing when to use integrals and derivatives is plenty.
- itishappy 3y agoTotally agree, I definitely use more calculus than most! Wolfram Alpha and the like also make up most of the gap. The main issue I run into is manipulating mental models, visualizing how they interact and combine. If I were to try to make a programming analogy, it feels like I know how to work with `fold`s but don't understand recursion.
